Bristol City Council

Welcome to the 22nd Bristol half marathon

The 2010 Bristol half marathon will take place on Sunday 5 September and is part of the "runbristol" portfolio of events.

In 2001 the race hosted the IAAF World half marathon and in 2000 and 2007 incorporated the UK and AAA of England Championships. The race was also chosen by UK Athletics to host their GB team selection trials for the 2007 and 2009 World Road Running Championships. In 2010 - UK Athletics have again chosen the Bristol race as the trials for GB team selection for the World half marathon and to host the UK half marathon Championships.

Bristol Half Marathon and Bristol International Festival of Kites & Air Creations

This year the Bristol half marathon will be staged on the same weekend as the city’s popular International Kite Festival (see www.kite-festival.org.uk). The two events will be working together to ensure that residents, participants and visitors are able to enjoy a weekend of top class events and can experience Bristol at its best.

With over 16,000 entries last year, the race is one of the largest and most popular half marathons in the country. Following the highly successful introduction of a 2 wave start in 2008, race organisers Bristol City Council now have an ambition to increase the field to 20,000 over the next few years.

The Bristol half marathon includes:

• An increasingly popular Business Challenge
• A series of Mile Races which are staged on the Saturday before the half marathon including junior, senior and veteran age categories
• Three “official” charity partners and high numbers of charity runners who raise in the region of £200,000 for good causes
• A series of monthly Runners Training days
• ARE YOU FIT TO RUN BRISTOL ? a year-round resource on the race website for runners of all levels and abilities developed working alongside some of the country’s leading experts in endurance running
