Volunteers wanted for 2007 Reebok Bristol Half Marathon

A call has gone out for volunteers to be marshals at this year’s 2007 Reebok Bristol Half Marathon event on Sunday, September 9.

Organisers of the half marathon are looking for volunteers who can help cheer the runners on and keep the 13-mile race route clear and safe. Volunteers are also needed to direct runners at the start and finish areas and help and advise spectators and visitors.

The volunteer marshals will also be helping to support the work of two of our locally based official race charities – Penny Brohn Cancer Care and the Association of Children’s Hospices.

Georgette Van Hoof, race director, said: “Every year we call on local people to come forward to act as volunteer marshals and it’s thanks to them – and the many people who work behind the scenes, that the Reebok Bristol Half Marathon is ranked as one of the UK’s leading road races. We are looking for individuals who are physically fit, who can work in all weathers and who are willing give up their time for free to support this fantastic event.

“This year we also want to hear from volunteer clubs or groups of 10 – 30 people who would like to work together at the race and in return we will make a donation to their organisation.

“Volunteers have a crucial role to play in ensuring the race runs smoothly, their continued help and support is vital to the overall success of the race.”

Volunteers must be over 18, physically fit and be available for six hours between 8am and 2pm on Sunday, September 9.
They will also have to attend one of the following briefing sessions:
• Portway Rugby Club on Thursday 30 August at 5pm
or
• Portway Rugby Club on Thursday 30 August at 7pm
or
• St Pauls Sports Centre on Friday 31 August at 5pm
or
• St Pauls Sports Centre on Friday 31 August at 7pm
All volunteers will receive a free souvenir marshal T shirt.
