Walkers and Power Walkers

Walkers and Power Walkers: an important message from the race organisers.

The Bristol 10k is a road running event and is just over 6 miles / 10k long so if you plan to walk or power walk, you should only participate if you have recent experience of an event of a similar distance, have completed an appropriate training programme and are confident you can complete the 10k distance easily.

On race day, we ask that walkers and power walkers line up at the rear of the main race. We also ask that during the race you keep to the sides of the route, in order to allow any runners who may have fallen behind you to pass.

It is essential for the smooth organisation of the race that you assemble in the time zones designated for you. In the past, other participants have experienced serious difficulties from walkers who linked arms and blocked their path. Whilst the race organisers support your participation in the race, linking arms creates serious problems for other participants and may result in your disqualification from the event.

Please read the road closure leaflet and be aware that roads will re-open according to the published schedule. The leaflet will be published on this site and sent to all participants with their race information packs. If you find you are slower than anticipated and wish to continue the race after these times you will need to leave the carriageway and continue on the pavement. Please be aware that if you choose to continue after the roads have opened to traffic, you do so at your own risk. You must also accept that the race organisers cannot guarantee that medical facilities will remain in operation and that other race facilities including drinks and medals may not be available to late finishers.

We ask all walkers and power walkers to respect these instructions, as failure to do so could result in yourself and other walkers and power walkers not being welcomed in future years.
