Places for the 2008 Reebok Bristol Half Marathon flood in

Friday, March 7, 2008

Entries for the 2008 Reebok Bristol Half Marathon are flooding in with individual runners and charities booking places for September’s race.

And this year, there has been a noticeable increase in the number of overseas entries with runners from Austria, Canada, Germany, Netherlands, Sweden, Switzerland, Channel Islands and the United States booking places in the Bristol race.

The huge response for early applications – an average of between 200 and 300 per day – has delighted city council organisers and race sponsors, Reebok.

The rise in the number of early applications is partly due to the ease of online booking and the race’s reputation for being well organised.

“The Reebok Bristol Half marathon is hugely popular,” said Georgette Van Hoof, city council race director. “From past experience we know to expect an early rush for places and this year has proved to be no exception. We shall be expecting a surge in applications from local runners next week following the Bath half marathon.

“We are particularly pleased with how things are going, as this is the half marathon’s 20th anniversary – and it looks like being a record year for entrants.

“My advice to anyone thinking about taking part in the 2008 Reebok Bristol Half Marathon is you’d better be quick and get your application in.”

Entry forms are still available online at www.bristolhalfmarathon.com

· The half marathon will take place on Sunday, September 14. The route of Bristol’s 2008 half marathon incorporates parts of the old city and follows the River Avon along the A4. Up to 15,000 runners are expected to take part. The Reebok Bristol half Marathon is the West’s leading road race and is the second largest half marathon in the UK.
· There are places still available for Bristol’s first ever 10km run on Monday, May 5, 2008. Entries for the 10k will close at the end of March. Full details, entry forms and training programme can be found at www.bristolhalfmarathon.com
